Staff Perceptions

It is easier to fall off the radar in year two…It’s not that the support isn’t necessarily here…We are just not paying much attention to year two. We assume that they know what they are doing and that they will get on…

I see students who are very focussed in year one who can go off the boils in level two and I am not quite sure what’s going on with them…

They become very confident about their rights, what they can expect, demand from staff and more confident to challenge staff on procedures and what’s expected….I found teaching year two students more challenging…

I think they feel a bit exhausted after the first year and the pressure… they start to think about their future and about marks counting and the increase in workload… I think there are a separate set of issues that are particular to this year …

I don’t think that we do very much to prepare them for the transition…

…In year two they are almost left to do their own things, they are juggling a lot of very different demands on their time and on their energies through that period…
